The Sexy Ghost of Xmas Boy brings Christmas Cheer and Consumerist Critiques across the Motu

George Fenn, alternative comedian and New Zealand’s sexiest non-verbal Clown, is making his away across the country with this holiday season’s ONLY wordless anti-consumerist xmas-themed interactive clown burlesque comedy with The Sexy Ghost of Xmas Boy.

The show uses audience participation to simultaneously celebrate the communal energy of Christmas whilst critiquing the problematic realities that underpin our traditions.

George cites their inspiration for the show as “the uneven allocation of labour around holiday festivities, both in the context of our family households and in the absurdity of our relationships to how we as a country consume products from poorer economies. Underneath the capitalist critique is a thank you to my mum.”

The work is especially important in the age of fast fashion drop-shippers such as Shein and Temu. We are growing increasingly disconnected from the origins of the products we buy for ourselves and others and resigned to the current inequitable world economic system. Ultimately, The Sexy Ghost of Xmas Boy empowers the audience to come together as a community to push back against capitalism.

The show did a mid-winter development season in June 2025 at Little Andromeda in Christchurch and at BATS Theatre in Wellington. This is its second holiday season tour, following a national 2025 season across Wellington, Nelson, and Christchurch. In 2027, the show will be heading across the Tasman for a season at the Adelaide Fringe.

George says, “The show contains a non-insignificant amount of Jelly, which is the best and worst part of performing the it.”

George recently completed a tour of Europe with his original show Sexy Ghost Boy, including stops in Berlin Germany, Basel, Switzerland, Riga, Latvia, and sold-out shows in Estonia at the Tallinn Fringe Festival, where he won the San Diego “Tour Read” Award.. The Sexy Ghost of Xmas Boy is the fourth in the Sexy Ghost collection of shows, which all use the same nonverbal form to explore different concepts.
