Wanted: Seeking New Reviewers

Blackguard Reviews is opening expressions of interest for new reviewers as our platform continues to grow. With more events approaching us each week, we are looking for people who enjoy attending live experiences and writing clear, thoughtful reviews with a short turnaround.

We take great pride in our work. Our reviews help audiences understand what to expect, but they also serve as a meaningful source of recognition for performers. We cover major festivals as well as emerging artists and smaller independent shows. Theatre, dance, film & TV, comedy, art, live experiences. Every week brings a wide variety of opportunities.

Our team has been invited to review many individual shows, as well as some of Auckland’s key festivals, including the International Comedy Festival, Auckland Live Cabaret Festival, Pacific Dance Festival, Tempo Dance Festival, New Zealand International Film Festival, Doc Edge, Auckland Arts Festival, and others. As demand increases, we are ready to welcome more writers who are excited to discover new work and champion local creatives.

We are seeking reliable people based in Auckland who can attend events and provide a written review by the following day. The role is unpaid, but reviewers are generally provided with two complimentary tickets. Some events also offer extras such as food and drink. Ideal candidates are strong writers with attention to detail, constructive in their criticism, and enthusiastic about exploring smaller or unexpected events. You never know what you will find.

While our current focus is Auckland, we have begun receiving review requests from Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington. If you live outside Auckland and would like to be considered, you are welcome to get in touch, and we will contact you if opportunities arise.
